The HomeFit Online Check
Provides homeowners, renters and landlords as well as those curious about the home they are living in with a simple mechanism to assess their homes. A simple online check, designed either for Kiwis looking at homes to buy or rent or for homeowners wanting to know more about how to improve their home or rental. By answering some easy questions with a few clicks on your screen you can see immediately if it’s a warm, dry, healthy place to live – and what you can do to fix it if it isn’t. An assessor will still need to visit the dwelling to issue a HomeFit Certificate.

Get HomeFitCertified
A full, independent, HomeFit assessment and certification can be carried out by a trained HomeFit assessor. Should your home meet all the correct ventilation criteria it will get the HomeFit stamp. A HomeFit rating also gives buyers and renters confidence that a home meets ventilation, insulation, heating and energy efficiency standards, and gives landlords peace of mind that they’re meeting their obligations too.

Certification under HomeFit is undertaken by trained assessors who are located all over New Zealand. The HomeFit certificate will be able to be used on sale/rental of a property to confirm that the home has achieved the HomeFit® criteria, or has reached the HomeFit® Plus criteria that provide extra confidence. You can request a HomeFit assessor from the HomeFit website.

Get fit for living
If your HomeFit Online Check or Certification shows that remedial work is required to bring your home up to standard, there are a range of HomeFit suppliers and installers the NZ Green building Council recommend to undertake any improvements.

You’ll get peace of mind, add value to your home and get a competitive advantage. A HomeFit home will have that all-important selling point should you be on the market to buy or sell. Nothing beats knowing your home has passed the HomeFit test.

HomeFit is designed to work for everyone, buyers, renters and owners. A HomeFit rating gives buyers and renters confidence that a home meets ventilation, insulation, heating and energy efficiency standards, and it also gives landlords peace of mind that they’re meeting their obligations too.

Knowing your property is HomeFit certified removes any worry over the health of the environment in which your family, friends or tenants live. You’ll have complete confidence that your home if ‘fit for living’.

Once your home is Certified the rating stays with that home and is valid for 3 years.
At Contact we believe every home deserves to be as healthy, safe and energy efficient as it possibly can be. It’s an all-important ‘national conversation’ which needs to happen more often, not just in our own homes, but with community leaders and policy-makers. Creating smart, easy to use tools and resources that will help kiwi homeowners, renters and landlords to be better equipped to deal with damp and mouldy homes is an important initiative for us to be supporting.

Over the past 18 months the NZGBC has partnered with Government agencies, Councils, community organisations, building representatives and kiwis homeowners to design and build the world-class online tool and the assessment resources that have become HomeFit. It’s awesome work and we're delighted to be partnering with them to help spread the word and create action.

We’re encouraging every Kiwi homeowner to spend a few minutes completing the HomeFit online check, to see how your home measures up and what might be done about fixing areas that need attention. It’s possibly some of the best few minutes you could spend online – especially when it’s the health of your home and family that’s at stake.

We are also pleased to be working alongside and acknowledging HomeFit’s other partners with this initiative; EECA, ANZ, Bayleys, Bunnings, Pink Batts, Plumbing World, Rinnai and Mitre 10.
At the New Zealand Green Building Council, we are passionate advocates for better buildings, because we know that better buildings mean healthier, happier Kiwis.

We do this by working alongside politicians, industry and other businesses to bring change. And, because we care and we’re an independent not-for-profit, we’re unafraid to speak truthfully and frankly to those who hold powerful positions. We also run trusted, robust authentication schemes, such as HomeFit®, Homestar and Green Star that highlight the many buildings that have proven their healthy, safe and environmentally friendly credentials. And we provide education too for hundreds of New Zealanders every year keen to learn about the technical aspects behind better buildings.
