Finding a way forward

When unexpected financial pressures began to mount, Sarah* and her whānau found themselves struggling to keep up with everyday expenses, including their electricity bill.

Like many people facing hardship, reaching out for help wasn't easy.

"I was worried about making the call. I thought I would be judged for falling behind. Instead, I found someone who listened."

After speaking with Contact's Customer Wellbeing team, Sarah was able to talk through what was happening and get support that worked for her situation. Together, they put a plan in place that felt manageable and helped take some of the pressure off.

"What made the biggest difference was knowing there were options. For the first time in a while, it felt like there was a path forward."

For Sarah, the support wasn't just about her power bill. It was about being listened to and treated with understanding during a difficult time.

"The conversation left me feeling reassured, not ashamed. Having someone take the time to understand our situation made a real difference to our family."

Today, Sarah and her whānau are still connected, with a plan in place that works for them.

"Sometimes all you need is someone to listen and help you work through what's possible. That's what made the difference for us."
