Billing & Payments

We all like different ways to pay our bills – so we’ve got options to suit you. There are handy tools to manage your bills, like aligning them with when you get paid. Or smoothing out your payments over the year, to help you budget. Plus there are great discounts when you pay on time.

Energy bills have a lot of information – so here’s what it all means

Take control of your bill

Contact PrePay

Pay for your electricity up front, just like a prepaid mobile phone. You control how much you pay and when you pay.

Weekly or fortnightly billing

Instead of standard monthly billing, you can now choose to pay weekly or fortnightly to align with when you get paid.

SmoothPay

Even out your payments across the whole year and avoid bill spikes. Choose to pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly – whatever works for you.

Pay your bill now

You can pay online anytime with your credit card. You just need your credit card and account number and you're good to go.

Get My Account

My Account gives you 24/7 access to view and change your energy account details. You can pay your bill, view and compare your usage, set up direct debit payments, SmoothPay and much more.
&

Why choose email bills?

You can get your bills by email or post. There’s a $1.10 (incl GST) fee for each paper bill sent to you in the post. But email billing is free, convenient and environmentally friendly. Plus, you can get an extra 1% discount on certain plans.

Finding it hard to pay your bills?

If you’re finding it hard to pay your bills you might be able to get extra help from Work and Income. For great budgeting advice, check out New Zealand Federation of Family Budgeting Service.

Ways to pay

Setting up direct debit ensures you’ll always get your prompt payment discount and never miss a payment because it all happens automatically. We will deduct the outstanding balance on the due date of your bill. You still get a bill so that you can keep an eye on your energy use and the amount you owe. Direct debit payments from a credit or debit card will incur a processing fee of 0.95% (incl GST) of the payment amount. The fee will appear on your next Contact bill.

You can set up, change, or remove this at any stage by signing into My Account or via the Contact app.

If you’d prefer to fill out a form instead, download it here. Fill it out and post to us at:

View and pay your Contact Energy bill using Credit/Debit Card, Direct Debit or Automatic Payment by signing into My Account or via the Contact app.
