Branch River is a run-of-river system with two power stations, Wairau and Argyle. A 2022 water intake enhancement project increased generation and improved efficiency at Branch.
Lake Argyle and the Branch and Leatham rivers are popular with anglers.
A fish pass allows the migration of native fish species, while fish trap and transfer and trout restocking programmes are also in place at the scheme.
