Esk includes two small run-of-river stations, Rimu and Toronui, which generate enough renewable energy to power 2000 average kiwi homes each year. The water used to make electricity returns to the natural river.
In February 2023, Cyclone Gabrielle caused severe flooding and extensive damage to infrastructure at Esk. Our teams rallied, and Toronui came back online in October 2023, and Rimu in June 2024, after a massive rebuild effort.
