Originally built to provide electricity for Taupō, Hinemaiaia consists of three power stations: Hinemaiaia A, B, and C.
Hinemaiaia includes protected wetlands and production trout spawning areas. There is a comprehensive trout trap and transfer programme each year, releasing around 200 trout and 35,000 fry above the Hinemaiaia B Dam.
