Located within the Kaingaroa Forest, Wheao and Flaxy power stations utilise water from the Rangitāiki River, Wheao River and Flaxy Stream. Commissioned in 1982, Wheao & Flaxy includes three dams and two canals. The Rangitāiki Canal provides an excellent recreational fishery and there’s also fishing in the Wheao canal.
