At Contact we believe home is the most important place in the world and should be a safe space. From the homes and communities we live in, to the land and resources that future generations can enjoy. Which is why we say ‘It’s good to be home’.
However, we also realise this is not true for all families. For the one in three women living in homes where they’re experiencing family violence, home is a hard place.
This is why we’ve partnered with Women’s Refuge. We’re helping enable the hard work they’re doing to change this for New Zealand, helping women and children to live free from domestic and family violence. Together we want to build a better, safer Aotearoa for New Zealanders and ensure ‘it’s good to be home’ is true for every Kiwi.
A warm and comfy home brings solace to people. So as part of our partnership, Contact donates the power and broadband for Women’s Refuge and their safe houses across Aotearoa.
This gives women and children in refuges comfort and the ability to jump online and talk with friends and whanau when they need it most. For Women’s Refuge, this provides a little financial relief so they can concentrate on what they do best.
We received this from our friends at Women’s Refuge:
“When one of our ladies arrived at a safe house and was told she could keep the heat pump going all night, it had a profound effect. The relief on her face. For the first time in her life, she could be comfortable and warm. It was free to be comfortable."
Since 2020 we have worked with the National Collective of Women’s Refuges and in 2022 we became their major sponsor.
We’re incredibly proud to be supporting Women’s Refuge with their important work across Aotearoa New Zealand. They help women and children in a diverse number of ways, with the hope they end their experience with family violence.
