Lighting

USB rechargeable or battery-operated LED night lights are a great alternative for those night feeds and gives a much softer light that’s easier on half asleep eyes.

While we’re talking LED, if you haven’t already, now would be a good time to replace any traditional lightbulbs with LED bulbs.

Heating

Keeping your baby warm and comfortable is a top priority, using a heater with a thermostat or thermostat plug allows you to the control temperature and energy use.

Only heat or cool rooms that you’ll be using regularly throughout the day.

Keep the cold out by using draught stoppers, a low-cost option to help keep heat in.

Don’t overfill the jug if you’re using a container of hot water to warm up baby formula. Putting more water into the jug that you need to, means using more energy to heat it all up.

Bathroom & laundry

Showers are generally more energy and water efficient that baths. However, giving a newborn a shower really isn’t practical! So instead, use a baby bath rather than filling your bath with water.

There is also no need to bath your baby every day. You can just wash their face, hands, or bottom on some days and then give them a full bath on other days.

It’s amazing how much washing a tiny person can generate, so try using a clothesline or clotheshorse outside as much as possible. Fresh air is wonderful for the soul too so it’s a good chance to step outside.

Fill up the washing machine and dishwasher with full loads before turning them on and use an eco-wash cycle.
