Summer energy saving tips

We don’t know about you but the thought of summer being on the door step is feeling pretty good right now! Long nights spent BBQing with mates, playing some backyard cricket, and enjoying our beautiful outdoors—it’s safe to say nothing beats it.

It can also be a time when spending can feel high so we’ve prepared a few tips and tricks to help you save energy at home during the warmer months.

Here’s a few ideas we swear by, including our personal favourite.

If you're heading away, you might like to clean out your fridge before you leave. Think sauces that have passed their use by dates, and leftovers at the back that won’t last while you’re gone. A clean fridge means it works more efficiently, saves you power and is lovely to come home to – win!

Appliances like heat pumps build up dust which means they don’t work as well as they should. Some of you in warmer parts of the country may turn to this for air conditioning as well as heating, so don’t forget to take off the filters regularly for a good old vacuum.

Be sure to give the oven and the microwave a break - they deserve it too! Make the most of your backyard – fire up the BBQ as much as you can. Try a roast chicken one night too - it should come out super juicy and is a nice break from the good old fashioned sausage.

Sometimes nothing is harder than the post-party clean-up when the house is a mess and you want to go to bed – we won’t judge if you use the dishwasher. The most important thing to remember is the 'eco' setting. Your dishwasher, and the environment, will thank you for it!

Everyone knows one of the best things about summer are the long evenings (did someone say golden hour?) Make the most of them with the help of a few solar fairy lights. They look fantastic and add that wee bit of magic to outdoor family dinners. Just remember to switch off any lights inside that you’re not using.
