Safety Around Stations, Dams & Waterways

• Follow all warning signs and instructions.
• Stay clear of fences, buoys, booms and barriers. They are there to protect you, and the areas inside them are dangerous.
• Listen for warning sirens and follow the sign instructions. 
• Do not enter prohibited areas, locations, or where we have temporarily closed access.
• Keep a safe distance from warning signs, buoys, booms and barriers when fishing, boating, swimming or paddling. 
• Stay well back from the water’s edge above and below hydro dams and power stations. 
• Never stand below a dam, or anchor/tie your boat there. Water levels and flows can change quickly, swamping boats and pulling you into dangerous undercurrents. 
• Stay well back from dry riverbeds below dams. They can quickly become fast-flowing waterways. 
• Stay well back from waterway edges, where footing may be slippery. 
• If you’re swimming, fishing, boating or paddling in a river, keep an eye on the water level and check upstream often for rising water or stronger currents. 
• Always supervise children around waterways, rivers, or lakes. 
• Keep an eye on the weather and conditions around rivers and lakes, and be prepared for conditions to change.
