At Contact, procurement has evolved well beyond sourcing goods and services. It now plays a strategic role in supporting business growth, investment decisions and customer outcomes. As procurement’s role has grown, we've strengthened our governance, commercial disciplines and procurement processes to help deliver better outcomes.
Our procurement focus is on managing risk, acting responsibly and delivering long-term value. We do this through activities such as strengthening our approach to modern slavery risk, supporting supplier performance, improving supply chain resilience and helping the business navigate an increasingly complex environment. While we're proud of the progress we've made, we recognise there is always more to do. We remain focused on building partnerships, planning further ahead and connecting the business with the capability, innovation and expertise needed to help lead New Zealand’s renewable energy future.
We’re continuing to strengthen our supplier due diligence and monitoring capability. Our proactive approach improves visibility of supplier risk and supports responsible procurement outcomes across supplier risk management, resilience, sustainability and supply continuity.
We use a structured, risk-based approach to identify and prioritise our suppliers. This is based on information gathered through our due diligence process for both new and existing suppliers.
The key elements of this process are outlined below. We apply greater scrutiny to suppliers that are strategically important to our business, critical to our operations, or have higher risks related to their location, industry, ESG performance, or potential modern slavery risks.
By strengthening our supplier partnerships and management activities, we’re building a more sustainable, ethical, and responsible supplier network here at Contact. This work supports our Contact 31+ strategy to lead New Zealand's renewable energy future, through continued operational excellence across our diverse and resilient portfolio.

At Contact Energy we’re building our supplier monitoring and performance reporting capabilities. As part of this work, we’re increasing transparency in our supplier ESG performance.
