How to set up your TP-Link Vx230

For Fibre Connections

  1. Plug the power cord into the back of your modem, and the other end into a power socket near your ONT (white fibre box). Your ONT will be fixed to a wall somewhere in your home.

  2. Connect your modem to your ONT by plugging the ethernet cable from the WAN/LAN port of the modem to your ONT (GE1 or LAN1 port).  

    TIP: If the GE1/LAN1 port on your ONT doesn’t light up, try plugging the cable into the GE2/LAN2.

  3. Check to make sure both the ONT and modem are switched on. If you can see lights on both, they’re on.  

Now your modem is set up, you can connect your devices to the internet.

Plug the supplied Yellow Ethernet Cable into one of the Ethernet ports on the modem and plug the other end into your PC or laptop’s Ethernet port (refer to your computer’s user manual if you’re unsure which port it is). To connect wirelessly follow below the three easy steps below.

  1. Find the modem network name (SSID) and wireless password/pin on the bottom of your modem.
  2. Open your Wi-Fi settings on your device and make sure that Wi-Fi switched on.
  3. View available Wi-Fi networks, click on your modem network name (SSID) and enter wireless password/pin.

Repeat these steps for all your devices.


For ADSL/VDSL connections

  1. Plug the supplied Grey Cable to the DSL port on the back of your modem and to the phone port that supplies your DSL service.
  2. Plug the supplied Power Adapter into the Power port of the modem and into a wall socket. Turn the power on at the wall socket and press the power On/Off Button on the side of the modem. The modem will take a few minutes to power up and communicate with our systems.

Now your modem is set up, you can connect your devices to the internet.

Home Phone Line

This option is only available if you have selected to have a home line from Contact, as part of your broadband package.

Once you’re connected to the internet you can plug your telephone handsets cable into the Green Telephone port located on the back of your modem.
